This week The Rounds Table bridges the Atlantic. Kieran Quinn is joined by Freddy Frost from the University of Liverpool to cover talc administration by indwelling pleural catheter for pleurodesis and comparing cardiovascular risk scores in the Emergency Department.
It’s not often that we see an interventional randomized controlled trial performed in a population with a palliative diagnosis. Freddy takes listeners through an outpatient trial examining whether talc administered through an indwelling pleural catheter is more effective at inducing pleurodesis than using an indwelling catheter alone in patients with malignant pleural effusions.
Next, Kieran covers a retrospective study comparing cardiovascular risk scores in the Emergency Department. Physicians are constantly asked to evaluate chest pain in the Emergency Department, it can be challenging to determine which patients are having an acute coronary syndrome. The study Kieran covers compares the modified HEART score, EDACS score, and simplified EDACS score for evaluation of possible acute coronary syndrome.
Finally, the Good Stuff segment. Freddy covers an article on mentoring millennials. Kieran shares an article on marijuana in Italy–the ‘green gold rush.’
